What is a Glaucoma?

Glaucoma is the “sneak thief of vision” because it can painlessly rob you of your sight permanently unless detected and treated in a timely manner. It is one of the leading causes of blindness in the United States because vision loss is so gradual.

Glaucoma is not just one eye disease, but a group of eye conditions resulting in optic nerve damage, which may cause loss of vision. Abnormally high pressure inside your eye (intraocular pressure) usually, but not always, causes this damage.
